5 Exercises Men Over 50 Should Reconsider (You’ll Still Grow Muscle)

Hi everyone.

We found another interesting video to share. It’s called 5 Exercises Men Over 50 Should Reconsider. Normally we see exercise videos that show us how to do an exercise and why we should do it. This video is telling us about 5 exercises that men over 50 should not do. The presenter Jay does provide alternative exercises that are less likely to cause injuries.

The video is about 8 minutes long.

DeadliftCabled machine

Here’s that list of exercises to replace:

Deadlifts

The list of injuries from deadlifts is a long one. A lot of back injuries such as spine tears and bulging disc issues. This can be replaced with seated dumbbell raises.

Behind the head Lateral Pulls.

Instead of pulling down behind the head, pull down in front to the chest. You can also do pullups.

Dumbbells.

Dumbbell flies can cause shoulder injuries. Replace with cable flies. If you don’t have access to a cable machine, Lay on your back on the floor and do dumbbell flies from that position.

Barbell bench press.

Doing the barbell bench press alone is not a good idea. You can easily hurt yourself without a spotter. Another option is a Smith machine which controls the weight in a much safer way.

Front Del raises

According to Jay, they are not needed. He basis this on the fact that virtually every push exercise that we do strengthens the front deltoids.

We like this video because by replacing these exercises with safer ones, the intent is to avoid injury.
